Mt. Arlington, NJ – Managing a distribution center is a complex job that, when done well, can have a significant impact on bottom line. Warehouse managers will welcome the new STORIS Receiving Calendar tool as it allows them to efficiently organize their third party inbound logistics and warehouse teams.
How warehouse managers use receiving docks, appointments and warehouse staffing is vital to effective operations. The brand new STORIS Reception Calendar tool uses two new configurable settings, Reception Groups and Reception Capacity, to schedule schedules. If you manage a network of distribution centers, you can create unique settings per location. Once preconfigured, these settings can be used on a regular basis to schedule receiving calendars, automating a previously tedious part of the process.
The first configurable setting allows you to create receiving groups based on inventory type. The time it takes, the manpower it takes, and the warehouse space it takes to offload your inventory vary by category. For example, receiving stackable boxes of lightweight accessories is generally less complicated than receiving preassembled liners. Therefore, how you plan your time and resources to manage these assets should also be different. Receive group settings allow you to specify the ideal time of day to receive inventory groups and to estimate the typical duration of the receiving process. You can proactively account for breaks your team will need. Having these settings allows you to schedule when certain vendors are eligible to deliver certain purchase orders to you.
The second configurable receiving calendar setting is the capacity settings. Here you can define the maximum number of truckloads and individual parts you can receive in one day. You can also define the amount of stretch up to which handlers can override. Capacities allow you to staff appropriately for anticipated inventory volumes.
Once your settings are preconfigured, you can use them on an ongoing basis to create reception calendars. When your fulfillment partners notify you of an inbound shipment, it’s time to plan. You can add incoming orders to your ERP manually, via import spreadsheets or automatically when using EDI.
“By planning your receiving calendars, you can efficiently utilize all of your distribution center appointments, ensure you are adequately staffed based on inbound activity, and book the ideal dock space to store or cross-dock your inventory just received,” notes Fiona Huddleston-Richardson, Head of Product Management.
With the new STORIS receipt calendar, your warehouse management team has control over the flow of products to the receiving bays. Significant cost and time savings can be achieved by streamlining the flow of goods in distribution centers. The reception calendar is available in STORIS ERP version 10.7. STORIS partners can take advantage of this new feature immediately. Want to provide this valuable tool to your warehouse team? Visit STORIS.com to request a demo or call (888) 478-6747.
