It’s coming around Christmas, and if you’re anything like me you’ll start to sweat a bit at how expensive everything is about to get. I spend so much money every December on gifts, food, drinks – I don’t even know where most of it goes, all I know is it goes.

It can be a bit daunting staring headlong into vacation (obviously without pay) combined with all these extra expenses. Not to mention, most people are already feeling the pinch pretty badly from that pesky cost-of-living crisis and all that blatant inflation.

Well, all is not lost. It turns out that there are actually a ton of money-saving hacks out there, and plenty of friendly Aussie influencers who want to share them. Who knew TikTok scrolling could actually be useful IRL?

I bet you didn’t know these hacks to save money from TikTok

Calculate your “cost per wear”

This hack comes from Invest With Queenie, a former marketing manager with some very useful money-saving hacks up her sleeve. This one especially hits the mark, especially if you’re fighting the urge to do some shopping during the Black Friday or Boxing Day sales. Think about it: is that top really worth it if you cut costs per wear?

@investwithqueenie Do you consider the cost per wear and tear before you buy anything? 🤔 #costperwear ♬ Roxanne – Instrumental – Califa Azul

Get a piggy bank and keep a weekly contribution

In her TikTok bio, the user who posted this hack describes herself as a “savings queen,” and boy does she have the hacks to back it up. This trick really is that simple: All you have to do is grab a piggy bank or tin (old school!) and put in a sizable weekly cash contribution. Make sure you don’t open it until the end of the year!

Do you know what these tickets mean to Coles?

Another one from Invest With Queenie, and while it might seem pretty obvious, it’s actually really important to train your eye to notice these tickets and what they mean. I don’t know about you, but my eyes are usually glassy at the supermarket.

Always taking note of prices that have been marked down will inevitably lead to savings. It’s so much better than walking into your weekly shop totally unaware of what’s on sale!

Plan your sales purchases

If you’re a bit impulsive as a buyer, but don’t want to miss any sales this year, you might want to plan ahead. Two Broke Chicks on TikTok have put together a clever little spreadsheet of all the Black Friday sales, and it’s a great way to keep track of what’s on sale without being totally distracted and tempted to buy things you just don’t need. .
